Human trafficking in the United States is the most important social problem of our time

Website design By BotEap.comWhat is human trafficking?

Website design By BotEap.comWhile the act of human trafficking has been going on for decades, only a few years (2000) have passed since the United Nations Protocol Against Trafficking (the Palermo Protocol of 2000, an accompanying international legal agreement) was established. to the United Nations) which contains the First, the internationally agreed definition of trafficking in persons with the understanding that it is force, fraud and coercion from one person to another that defines the essence of this crime.

Website design By BotEap.comPeople often tell me that they believe human trafficking is moving people from one country to another, and while that is part of what the act really is, the heart of the problem is the mental and emotional movement of a person. person to another. The Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA) (created as a result of the UN Protocol) omits what is to me the most important aspect of the definition and therefore makes it harder to prove a case in court against suspected traffickers.

Website design By BotEap.comThe core of the UN Protocol on Human Trafficking defines human trafficking as: the recruitment, transport, transfer, shelter or reception of people, through the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, kidnapping, fraud , deception, abuse of power or a position of vulnerability or giving or receiving payments or benefits to obtain the consent of a person who has control over another, for the purpose of exploitation.

Website design By BotEap.comThe US-TVPA is weak and should include terminology consistent with the UN Protocol, as it further distinguishes that traffickers use deception and abuse of power, or a position of vulnerability, when searching for their victims. Traffickers seek out the vulnerable knowing how to deceive and manipulate them, the worst form of kidnapping, by causing one to lose trust in those they should most trust. It takes a lifetime to “reprogram” someone who has been manipulated in this way.

Website design By BotEap.comIn today’s human trafficking advocacy circles, traditional trafficking methods have been the focus and prohibit the actual discovery of the reality of what is causing modern slavery. Poverty, homelessness, runaways, broken families, high school dropout rates, pornography (media) – these are all separate social issues that deserve our time and attention. Each brings with it a different set of problems that demand the attention of those wholly in our society. However, when we look at human trafficking, we see all these problems wrapped up in one almost like a domino effect. Each of these problems is a contributing factor to the areas that fuel human trafficking. And, dare I say, each of these problems is caused by a giant that controls America and manipulates our every move: greed. Traffickers are not just looking for vulnerable and at-risk youth, they are targeting the male population to recruit them as buyers.

Website design By BotEap.comThere is a great need to address the root causes that are fueling this heinous crime against humanity in order to begin to restore our sense of dignity and worth as human beings. With the proper education, we can work to bring restoration not only to victims of human trafficking, but to all of us who are part of American culture; however, we will never end human trafficking in this country if we do not recognize how we got there. here in the first place, and that will require us to look at the slow trickle of cultural decline over the last few decades.

Website design By BotEap.comSince the inception of Playboy magazine in 1953 (which was inspired by a gathering of men coming together to determine how to recover the economy after WWII), the first time women were sold commercially, our culture has declined since a moral point of view. and a financial point of view. Sex crimes have risen as the pornography industry (now a 97 billion dollar worldwide industry – Documentary pornodemic) has risen. And the United States leads the way in the production of pornography around the world, but lags behind in profit. Research has shown that pornography is one of the root causes of human trafficking. Website design By BotEap.comSince we have learned that pornography is a driving force behind human trafficking and is a destroyer of life and relationships, we must search within and find the key to addressing the lawsuit. We need to ask the right questions:

Website design By• Why are millions of men willing to buy other humans, including children, to satisfy their unbridled passions?

• What is fueling this basic human instinct and turning it into such a barbarous evil against each other?

• Why are we, as consumers, willing to buy more and more products as if there is no tomorrow, even after knowing that those products are made with slave labor, including children?

• What has caused this insatiable thirst for material goods and possessions?

• Why are families willing to sell their children for money?

• What has caused this type of poverty: financial, moral and spiritual?

• Why are corporations thirsty for more and more profit at the expense of those who create the product that gives them their profits?

Website design By BotEap.comCan we really end human trafficking?

Website design By BotEap.comWith a confident yes, I truly believe that we can end human trafficking in time. As an advocate for more than 10 years in the anti-human trafficking movement, each year I strive to re-evaluate the current state of modern slavery in the United States. We are in a place where the foundations have been laid, the desire for education and awareness is at an all-time high, and safe houses cannot open fast enough to receive the number of victims being rescued. Activists and advocates are working for free every day to do their part in whatever they can to make a difference. Healing methods are being explored to achieve restoration. Research has been done so that thematic programming can be created to address root causes. The notion that we can fight this and win is clear. In addition to bringing restoration to those who have survived victimization, creating a culture free from slavery remains at the forefront of our challenge and calls us to focus on healing the very fabric of our society.

Website design By BotEap.comWe must begin to reverse the effects of the media attack on our lives over the past decades and see where we can make adjustments that can actually begin to reduce incidents of modern slavery. And while we must continue to educate on what human trafficking is, we must simultaneously bring healing to our minds and souls. That is the only way we will defeat human trafficking, modern slavery.
