The film tells the story of his difficult childhood and his life with the white family that later takes him in. He starts playing football in high school and is eventually recruited to play for the University of Mississippi. It is an emotionally powerful film that tells the story of a strong and successful black man and those who care about him.

Website design By BotEap.comThe Express tells the story of Ernie Davis, the first black man to win the Heisman Trophy. Ernie Davis is recruited by Syracuse University and is immediately successful. After a successful tenure at Syracuse University, Davis wins the Heisman Trophy and goes on to the NFL. Sadly, he dies at the very young age of 23 from leukemia. Throughout the film, Ernie Davis confronts the discrimination and hatred that was prevalent at the time; like when he and other black players weren’t welcome at the awards banquet after the team’s victory in the Cotton Bowl Classic.

The film follows the experiences of this unit during the Civil War. His captain, Robert Shaw, was instrumental in the unit’s success and insisted that his men be deployed in combat situations.

This team was the first college basketball team with an all-black starting lineup to win the NCAA Division 1 Basketball Championship.

The film chronicles the efforts of the debate team coach to lead his debate team to success in an environment of extreme hate and violence. Jim Crow laws and lynching were an important part of this time period. In the movie, the team beats Harvard in a debate; a monumental achievement.
