BMW provides excellence and innovation for almost 100 years

BMW is the parent company of Rolls Royce and owns the MINI brand. Since the company’s inception in 1916, the company has been a standard-bearer for luxury and performance, a tradition that has been upheld through two world wars, this one, and promises to continue into the future.

The first noteworthy engine produced was the BMW IIIa straight-six aircraft engine. The success of this engine at the end of World War I along with the significant advances made on a number of other prototype straight-six engines are said to have influenced the design of the BMW logo. The circular blue and white BMW logo is said to represent the movement of an aircraft propeller, meaning that the white blades cut through the blue sky. It was officially adopted by BMW in 1929. Whatever the meaning of the logo, after World War I, the Versailles Armistice Treaty was enacted and BMW was forced to cease aircraft engine production. Instead, they turned to the production of motorcycles and automobile engines. The 1930s brought a new era to Germany and rearmament began in earnest. The treaty was dissolved and BMW began producing aircraft for the Luftwaffe. BMW produced several successful aircraft engine designs during World War II, including the BMW 801 air-cooled radial engine and the revolutionary 003 axial-flow turbojet.

Website design By BotEap.comAlthough BMW had returned to producing aircraft engines, it never completely abandoned the line of motorcycle and automobile engines. By 1959, they were beginning to experience financial difficulties and contemplated stopping automobile engine production altogether. A last attempt to save the car was decided and the decision was made to explore the economy car market. The company enjoyed enough success for the manufacturer to get back on its feet.

Website design By BotEap.comGradually, BMW began to move into the luxury car market and by 1980 its success in the arena had been established. BMW had established itself as a carmaker known for high quality as well as forbearance, and was now a strong rival to its main competitor, Mercedes-Benz.

Website design By BotEap.comBMW acquired the Rover brand in 1994 to compete in the SUV market; however, he was unable to make any progress in stemming the Rover’s sales decline. BMW dissolved the Rover Company and sold the MG division to a Phoenix consortium, while Ford acquired the Rover label.

The new MINI, written in capital letters to distinguish it from the classic mini, was introduced in 2001 and was an instant hit. The popularity of the MINI in the United States demonstrates that BMW has the ability and vision to push the boundaries of current car production and promises to deliver some of the most exciting cars seen to date. As the company prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary, one can only imagine what it may think of next.
