How You Can Help Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey

Website design By BotEap.comAs I write this in my office, I see images of people young and old, walking through floods with all their worldly possessions bagged in small boats or being carried in their hands. Some also hold their cats and dogs. I have seen news footage of older people sitting in nursing homes while awaiting rescue.

And I am proud to see that we are coming together as a nation, helping each other in any way possible, even in prayer. I have spoken with colleagues and contacts in the South, and have heard of people taking their boats to Texas to help everyone they can, especially those who suffered from Hurricane Katrina. When FEMA calls the public and asks everyone to come and help, you know we must have a devastating natural disaster on our hands.

And, as I have done in the past, here are some suggestions for you of places where you can donate. Hurricane Harvey is not yet done with its destruction as of this writing. It will be months, if not years, before affected people get their lives back on track. At the very least, it will be a new reality for countless people.

Website design By BotEap.comWhat follows are some suggestions for places where you might consider making a financial donation. Don’t forget, every dollar counts. If you can only give $ 1, those in need will be as grateful as if you could give hundreds or even thousands of dollars more.

• Feed the children: This non-profit organization is responding with disaster relief supplies to individuals and families affected by Hurricane Harvey along the Gulf Coast and in Texas.
• Buckner Foundation: This organization is working with children and families affected by the natural disaster, and any proceeds received from the relief efforts will be used to fund its general ministry.
• American Red Cross: The Red Cross is one of the leading agencies on the ground, working around the clock to help individuals and families affected by Hurricane Harvey.
• Texas Covenant House: This organization has one of its homeless youth shelters in Houston and other parts of Texas. In particular, they have been working to ensure that any teen found homeless in Texas is cared for in a safe environment, especially in light of Hurricane Harvey.
