Nanny Vs Nanny – What Are The Differences?

Website design By BotEap.comMaybe you had a babysitter. Maybe you’re a babysitter. Did you babysit some neighborhood kids while you were in high school to earn some extra money? Did you move in with a family and become their babysitter? Some people immediately recognize the difference between the two terms. Some may think that they are interchangeable, but in reality they are two quite different jobs.

We probably had one when we were young, the nice girl or boy from the street who periodically came when Mom and Dad would go out and sit with us, help us with homework, watch TV with us, put us to bed. As adults, we have most likely hired one to take care of our children when we wanted to go out to dinner or to the movies. They show up, hang out with the kids, you pay them when you get home and take them home, end of story.

They worry about the kids, they supervise the kids, but it’s usually for a specific occasion or maybe a few days after school when parents have to work late. It’s a job where the babysitter can make some money, but not one where there are taxes and legalities to ponder. Nannies are paid by the hour, they can do light cleaning, but they’re basically there as senior supervisors for minors.

They can live with the family or just come to the house every day, but they are real employees of the family. They are interested in the development of the child, their physical, mental and emotional well-being and are like secondary parents of their children.

They can prepare meals, help the kids with school work, schedule outings and excursions to enjoy, and basically do what a parent would do if they were home. Also, a nanny will be with a family for years, not just once or twice a month like a nanny would. As such, a nanny will earn a real salary, not only will she be paid by the hour like a nanny would, and yes, it is a profession, so there are taxes and legalities to adhere to as well.
