The evolution of soccer games

Website design By BotEap.comWith the confirmation that EA Sports will launch the “2010 FIFA World Cup” on April 27, franchises like “Sensible Soccer” and “International Superstar Soccer” are all but forgotten. This article and accompanying video were made in appreciation and to allow you to relive some of the defining games in the genre. So far, in terms of advancement in soccer games, FIFA 10 is arguably the best soccer title out there, although several Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) fans have their say on the matter. There have been a number of breakthrough titles in the past and others that are best forgotten.

Website design By BotEap.comSensible Soccer, Ultimate Soccer, Super Soccer and Italia 90 were some of the first titles that captivated soccer fans around the world. For me it was Italia 90 that got him started despite a series of horrible flaws such as being able to score a cross from the edge of the box every time with ease, but this was only a minor issue in a game that started competitive play for my. at the tender age of five with my older brother. Brazil and Italy were inevitably the best teams in the game played from a bird’s eye view. But overall, among my friends and the consensus among the gaming community at large, Sensible Soccer was the king of the early days and created an undeniable dynasty in gaming. “Sensi” topped charts like Amiga Power.

Website design By BotEap.comFIFA International Soccer was released in July 1993 and moved soccer games into the 16-bit era, and it is well known that the player could run away from the referee when receiving a yellow card, however, the game would not resume until the referee caught up with him, and this would result in a straight red card due to the incident. Sensible World of Soccer, released in 1994, became a first in video games when it attempted to include the entire world of professional soccer in a single title that featured career modes that included both player and management roles, as well as numerous clubs and teams. Nationals, many of which were a bit weird. Don’t take anything away from it though, this even made a New York Times Top Ten Video Game of All Time list.

Website design By BotEap.comFIFA 96 undoubtedly represented the greatest advances in the genre in the 1990s; Silicon Graphics, modeled players using MotionDesign animation technology. New moves included 1-2 passes, quick dribbles, volleys, dummies, feints and nutmeg – the beginnings of the modern game. The game incorporated real players with real attributes. FIFA 97 offered very little new besides the indoor arena, something I’ve been waiting to see come up again for the last 13 years or so. FIFA Road to World Cup 98 was next and created a benchmark in graphics and gameplay for subsequent soccer games, but it would be a long time before EA Sports re-emerged as the superior franchise that it is today.

Website design By BotEap.comPersonally, International Superstar Soccer 64 (ISS 64) was the best soccer game ever, and it’s important to mention the N64 controller. It brought a real arcade feel to your couch and an inexplicable competitive streak among your friends, everyone had to be the best. Realism wasn’t the reason this game was so good, the fact that it was unlicensed didn’t matter, David Beckham was called Decham, Alan Shearer was Shoarer, none of this was a problem, just fun. The smooth gameplay and tangible skill element between players made it a huge hit. Does anyone remember the “Z” button for curling? You could zig-zag from left to right. ISS 98 soon followed and was rated equally highly, although unfortunately there were no official licenses yet.

The franchise died abruptly.

Website design By BotEap.comPro Evolution Soccer 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, take your pick, they were all magnificent in their own right. A strong sequel to what ISS 98 left behind, they controlled most fans of the genre for almost a decade. Although still missing from almost all licenses, FIFA struggled to match the freedom and fluidity of the Pro Evolution series. Sure PES had its flaws as a realistic game, but why should it be realistic? What also made it so good was the condition of the players before a game, the smiley faces indicating what percentage of their potential a player could play at, this could affect their game! My style was all dribbling with very few passes; very unrealistic when driving past 10 players, but each had their own style of play. Some were tentative and patient, others more complete and attack-minded, others sat and played at half-time, but the good news is that all styles worked. I might be taking a gamble, but I think the PES franchise has created the most intense competition between friends than any game in history, or if you disagree, surely in soccer games, and a lot of that was up to the mark. diverse that it was

Website design By BotEap.comEA Sports’ resurgence was most evident with FIFA 09, a game that caught the attention of many Pro Evo. PES 6 and 2009 didn’t improve enough considering the next-gen opportunities presented. The simple reality was that EA Sports had finally come up with nice, smooth, slick gameplay and thus made it hard to be good, which is another thing Konami did so well. The release of PES 2010 almost confirmed this change for me, yes there are improvements in the game, but I have changed, something I never thought I would say. The introduction of 360 dribbling, new usable skills, formations, licences, graphics, ultimate gear, and most importantly in this day and age, the strength of online play that PES is sorely lacking.
