Website design By BotEap.comThe oldest part of the building is the Ora Hinckley wing. It is named after the organization’s first full-time librarian. He served in 1909 until he passed away in 1943. This is where Cape Cod ghost hunters flocked. David Sircom, who is the founder of the Massachusetts Paranormal Institute, truly believes that Ora’s spirit still haunts the shelves of the library. Hinckley died a long time ago, more than sixty years from now.

Website design By BotEap.comUsing an electromagnetic field detector, Sircom and his team entered the Hinckley Wing. There, Sircom had his researcher ask the former librarian questions using the detector, questions that resulted in yes or no answers.

Website design By BotEap.comMany researchers believe that spirits are made up of energy. To manifest, they use all available energy. Fluctuations in electromagnetic fields are detected with EMF meters and can often give indications of paranormal activity.

Website design By BotEap.comThe EMF detector has five lights; more lights will be displayed when there is a stronger field. An appearing light defines a normal baseline. Sircom had Hinckley turn on as many lights as possible for all yes answers.

Website design By BotEap.comThe researcher barely had time to complete this question when he noticed that the meter was strongly displaying three lights.

Website design By BotEap.comUsing a series of video cameras, EMF detectors and digital voice recorders, the researchers were able, in essence, to project a network over the entire library. It was with this equipment that they were able to capture Hinckley’s voice on tape.

Website design By BotEap.comInvestigators then asked Ora if she was getting along with a former colleague. In response, Hinckley replied, softly whispering the word ‘Not’. This voice did not belong to anyone else in the room.

Website design By BotEap.comThose who work at the Hyannis Library have also had their own chilling encounters with ghosts.

Website design By BotEap.comIt has been reported that employees can sometimes smell pipe tobacco in the library. Some believe that this smell is attributed to George Kelly. George is a coach (i.e. passed away) Library clerk who enjoyed smoking a pipe inside the building before he died.

Website design By BotEap.comOne night, an employee was registering books and scanning them on the computer. For a brief minute he turned away from the computer. When he turned to continue working, the monitor had a book about ghosts. A book that the employee claimed that she did not scan in the computer.
